NONM has new Students Chapter leadership

The National Organisation of Nurses and Midwives of Malawi – NONM has new Students Chapter leadership that will be spearheading nurses and midwives students’ activities in the country.

Steve Smart – New NONM Students Chapter PresidentThis follows elections that were held recently with the aim to elect new leadership after tenure of office for the previous leadership that was led by President Rodrick Sota had ended. 

The elections were held in relation to NONM constitution provision Chapter VI which establishes the student chapter leadership with one year tenure of office before next elections. 

Reacting to his election, Smart said he would like to achieve a lot of things with his team while in office among which include achieving hundred percent students’ membership to the union and implementation of various projects. 

“I want to take full charge of organization's social responsibility like implementing projects that aim at assisting the common Malawian, for instance helping Rumphi district hospital maternity ward project.  

“Under my leadership, we would like to achieve NONM students’ chapter economic independence. We would like to see Information always becoming at anybody's disposal. 

“I would like to promote and sustain the welfare of student nurses and midwives in all colleges. I will work hand in hand with NONM, our mother body for the northern region zone to have Nonm offices as it is the case with central and southern regions respectively”, said Smart.

He added that achieving the one hundred percent students’ membership registration in all colleges of the country will help to contribute to NONM’s organisational sustainability goal.

First Vice: Thoko Banda – Daeyang University
Second Vice: Mercy Kamkonda – St John’s College of Nursing and Midwifery
Secretary General : Paul Pemba – Kamuzu College of Nursing
Project Officer: Yankho Bokosi – Daeyang University
Treasurer: Charity Banda – Holy Family College of Nursing and Midwifery
Zone Representative: Catherine Maganizo – Mulanje Mission College of Nursing and Midwifery
South East Zone Chairperson: Wycliff Mwafulirwa – Malawi College of Health Sciences
